M.J. Evans brings twenty one years of firsthand incarceration experience within the Florida Department of Corrections combined with institutional program leadership and post release executive management. His work is grounded in lived accountability, structured leadership, and measurable transition.
While incarcerated, he led structured peer driven programming, contributed to curriculum development, and worked alongside institutional staff within secure environments. He understands institutional structure, operational limitations, and the realities participants face from direct experience.
He also understands that correctional institutions cannot carry the full responsibility of transformation alone. Sustainable change requires collaboration between institutional leadership, outside professionals, structured mentorship, sponsorship support, and leadership from someone who has lived the experience and successfully rebuilt beyond it.
This Academy reflects both perspectives. It bridges institutional structure with real world execution, accountability, and opportunity.
There is no individual more uniquely positioned to architect and lead this initiative than M.J. Evans.
